“I, too, want to lay down my life for my brothers.”

On this Day of the Resurrection, in the beautiful light of this Easter evening, our brother and Father Jean-Claude lived his own Passover with the Risen Jesus, in Him and through Him. The entire Community gathered around him to sing Vespers and was thus able to surround him with our prayers of thanksgiving during this important moment. As we sang the Magnificat, he passed on to the Father whom he loved so greatly throughout his life. Alleluia!

Since late January, he had become noticeably weaker, which allowed all the little sisters and little brothers to prepare for this moment and to gradually gather from all corners of the world to accompany him in this final stage of his life.

This gave us a very beautiful time of community gathering. Until the very end, in a way that edified us all, Brother Jean-Claude laid down his life, drawing on his last reserves of strength to offer each and every one of us his smile, a word of friendship, his kind gaze, and his fraternal and paternal attention.

His deep attachment to Jesus and his Gospel was increasingly visible and palpable through his words and in his whole being. He passed on this treasure to us: “Gospel, Gospel, Gospel!” as he so often repeated, a true son of Saint Francis of Assisi to the very end, and a close brother and friend of Saint Dominic.

Together with all of you who loved him, we give thanks for his life, so filled with the light of the Gospel, and for the gift that he was and will always continue to be for all those he accompanied with his faithful friendship: a father, a brother, a friend.

Peace and good,

the Little Sisters and Little Brothers of the Lamb
